Desserts at Shin Kushiya!

Once upon a time (okay, not really that long ago), my man and I hopped into Shin Kushiya to have our anniversary dinner. And now, we chanced upon this restaurant again to have some desserts because I was attracted by the pretty looking desserts at the window!

The mains were not too bad. But we are here for our dessert/afternoon tea!

First, tiramisu. God. The cream was fresh, the taste was good. The plum wine gave an extra boost somehow. And the coffee smell was just nice for my liking. Woooosh! WE LIKE! Haha. The cream layer was really good (considering that I'm not a great fan of creams). The cake part was heavenly. Wooooo!

I erm, finished quite a fair bit of the cake before my man noticed it. Hahahahaha!

Next, is the green tea mochi with ice cream.

The mochi was reallllly suppppeeerrrr Q. Heh. And as you slowly chew it, the nice aroma of the green tea will diffuse into your mouth and you will go 'hmmmmmm....'. Haha. And I love the warm mochi.

Eat it with the accompanying green tea ice cream. Woo. You will have the merger of warm and cold in your mouth! YUMS!

And apparently, there is an offer. If you dine in during the afternoon tea time, all desserts will be at $6 each. NICE! Haha. Offers just made good desserts even better right? Hahaha.

Final verdict. I'm sure I'll go back there sometime for the desserts again! I'm serious! Well, I'm great fan of Japanese style desserts, or rather desserts as a whole. Haha. So, I would never waste my calories on yucky desserts. Hehs.

Swedish Meatballs

Where do you think you will go when you think of Swedish Meatballs???? Ikea? I've heard so much comments about the meatballs there from all my colleagues from Sweden. Nope, they are not considered meatballs, for heaven sake!

I didn't really believe that because I really thought that the meatballs were yummy enough. I decided to swallow that after eating at Two Chefs at Phuket. Hehs. They are erm, really DIFFERENT!!! So, I gladly accepted the invitation to Martina's place for a meatball session after work!!

After putting our meat in.
We roll them into balls.

And we fry them one by one.

And there they are.

Gravy gravy gravy! We need gravy! Buy the powder and cream!

It's seriously ALOT of meatballs.

If the above few photos don't look familiar to you. This should! Haha. Yummilious! I love meatball! Hehs. Ok, no exact recipe yet. But, we neeeeed beef, pork, bread crumbs, eggs, milk. Lalalalalalala~

Final verdict. Yes, once again, Ikea meatballs are.... Hehs. And, I love homecooked food! Cheers!!

Thank you Martina for teaching me how to make the meatballs!! =D =D

Lovely dinner with my dear.

Because he knew that I had not lost my cravings for big sausages, he asked me if I would love to have western food for dinner. But I thought of going to cold storage to see if there is any yummy big sausages waiting for me, I decided I want to cook. Like I had always wanted. For him. Ha.

At the end of the day, I just want to tell you. Farmland hashbrown is really nice. And Jackson cheese sausages (it's the yellow cheese! Forgot the name suddenly) is really tender and the cheese made it perfect. YUM!!!!!! And please, scrambled eggs should not be cooked after all the pan frying. The pan is probably too hot for a nicely done scrambled egg. Ha!

It was a great meal with a great company. I wish for more. =D And oh my friends, if you would love to have it, just tell me! I am so willing to cook! Haha.

Flor Patisserie @ Duxton Hill

I was trying to find a time to pull my foodie khakis down to Flor to try out their cakes after doing a little research on what to eat at Tanjong Pagar. Seriously, just looking at the website made me drool. Haha.

And so, when I was selected by inSing.com for the food tasting, BOY! I WAS OVERJOYED! Woohoo!

The place is a pretty little place tucked away at 2 Duxton Hill. I have a fetish for this kinda small and exquisite stores. And so, I fell in love with it! Immediately. =D

Shop front

Seriously, just look at the selection when you enter the store! This is crazily appetizing! I am at such a loss when I was asked to pick what I would want to try. I wanted to try ALL! Like, seriously, life is about too much choices recently. Can you just give me all you have? And if you don't want to give me so much, then, please give me limited choices and I will take all too. HAHAHA! Okay, crap.

I love photo frames on the walls. Nice nice.

Ok. And the food tasting begins. No, we did not get the full cake. Well, might as well. Since we are unable to finish the entire big slice ourselves anyway. We cannot encourage food wasting during food tasting sessions. So, small is good. =D

Top favorite top favorite!!!!!

I got the name wrongly. It was not mont blanc. Mont blanc does not have my favorite pastry on it. Haha. It's called Waguri Millefeuille. Woo. The cream is made from chestnuts and you can still see chestnuts sprinkled on top of it. God. I was seriously in heaven once again when I ate the cream. Haha.

What's best is actually the pastry/biscuit/crispy thing/base/whatever you call it. You do know what I'm talking about right? Haha. This is omg-ish kinda nice. Woo. *Drools* Just order any cakes with that pastry/biscuit/crispy thing/base/whatever you call it.

Pretty little thing isn't it?

Next next next, Cacao Royal. MY GOODNESSSSSSS! Haha. The chocolates were great, the texture was great. Yum yum. But, well, I have to say, if I were to compare with the Waguri on top, this loses out in omg-ish factor. It's just another chocolate cake. A very well done chocolate cake though. Haha.

But please, even so, I did not say that the cake is not nice. It was super nice!! Haha. Because texture is very very important to me when I eat desserts. And it did fulfilled my requirements. =D

Berries berries/ Flor's strawberry shortcake/ Strawberry scoffle (please pardon me. I'm bad at names and memorizing things). It's Chef Yamashita's all time favorite, until he ate too much and decided that the Waguri became his favorite. Hahaha.

Boasted to be the best strawberry shortcake in Singapore. But, hmm, I am not too sure about it. We did not eat the cake when it was freshly taken out of the fridge. So, for cakes, after exposure to the air for a while, it will start to get a little rough and dry. And that's what happened. But even so, I can feel the cake melting in my mouth the moment I put it in. It's like, how did it managed to dissolve in just like that?! Crazy!! And then the cream. Woah. Nice. I would love to try it again the next time I visit Flor. I'm serious. Haha.

Berry Chocx. YUM YUM! The puff is really special and the custard cream was heavenly. They went so freaking well together. My goodness. *LOVES*

The Vert. The macha/green tea cake. Haha. The aroma of the macha is so super strong and nice. It was so heavenly! But the thing is that I felt that the cake was a little rough for my liking. But I do realized that macha cakes tend to be this rough. Just like the one I love from the super market. And really, eating it chilled is way much nicer than eating it after a while. =D My man likes it!

Look look look! It's the pastry/biscuit/crispy thing/whatever you call it again! This time round, it's with strawberries! The cake is the same to me. The same good spongy cake. But the topping is different. Well, more refreshed I would say. Love it too. Anything with that pastry/biscuit/crispy thing/whatever you call it is great! Yum yum Napoleon.

You must have heard me saying that chocolates and bananas are destined to be together forever and ever right? Hahaha. Well, at least in human. I think this is the first time I'm saying it on my blog. Lol. Yes, they have to be together. LOL! This Earl Grey Choclat made them merge again. Haha.  A very interesting texture I have to say. Not something that I had tried before. Yum. They went really well together. The cake and the cream and the banana and the chocolate sprinkles. Haha. But according to TXY, the cake itself has no taste. I didn't try it, for I ate the entire layer together. Hehs.

Last but not least, the Classic Chocolate. It has a chocolate sponge with a moist inside and the blob of cream on top of it. The chocolate taste is really good. Yum yum. But I think the cake is a little hard. Did they purposely do it this way? Haha. I'm still not complaining because we have to stimulate our taste buds in many different way. No just the way we love it. I kinda like it because of the well blend between the sponge and the cream. And definitely the chocolate.

They served us hibiscus tea. It was refreshingly nice! Apparently, it helps in digestion so it was a great thing to go with after eating so many yummy yummy cakes. Hehs.

Chef Yamashita!
Our fellow food tasters.

Thank you inSing.com. Haha. Please invite us more often for the future events! I love it!

Final verdict. Please visit the place. Oh, bring your friends/families along too. With the wide selection of cakes that does not really cost as much as a lot of places, I'm so sure you can find your love! I'm dead serious. Haha. Other than the yummy cakes that pushed me to heaven, I seriously love this place because I feel the presence of the chef in all the cakes. I like this kinda small shops. As in, there's passion and love for the things he baked. And that's what important to me. And, doesn't the cakes look like a piece of art? Just go, stop thinking of your dieting plans. Hahahaha.

By the way, their cakes are selling fast at around 4. So, if you don't want to miss the cakes, go slightly earlier eh? Afternoon tea. Wooo. Nice. Haha.

Ramen Nantsuttei @ Parco

Oh, I think I should probably talk about this place too! Haha.

They are one of the most authentic ramen around, I would say. Just look at the shop! It's full of cool Japanese guys! And there's actually a counter that you can sit at. But it's often too crowded and so I did not get my chance. GAH! Next time. Haha. And it's actually a flagship from Japan! Oh, how cool is this?

Well, so, since this is a ramen shop, we have to try the legendary char-siew ramen right? Lol. I always see the man ordering char-siew, so I thought I should give it a try since he was not around to order it. Hahahaha.

The soup was really special. Nothing like the ones that I had tried before. I think it must be because of the garlic oil (that gave the black look). A little too salty for my liking. Just have to down a few more cups of water. Haha. But the char-siew is seriously nice!! I like the seaweed too! And oh, the ramen. This is crazy. Haha. *Like like like*

I would probably go back there again. Hehs. Do beware of the crowd man! It can get really crowded!

Waffle Factory @ Singapore Post Center Shopping Center

I have been thinking of the waffles from the Waffle Factory since the man started going to the SingPost center very often. Hehs. I tried the waffles sometime back and I remembered it as a very nice waffle!

So, he bought it for me and I finally satisfied my craving for it. But it was a little disappointing because I did not eat it fresh from the shop. I'm sure it had been softer 50 mins before I tried it. Haha. I will go back and eat it there and review on it again. Haha.

But the hit of the shop should be the number of flavors it offers. I was thinking that it looks like all the donut shops around. A simple donut with more than a dozen different flavors to choose from. The same goes for the waffles! The flavor I had was the Kit Kat. Like, WOAH! Kit Kat eh!?! The cream and the Kit Kat went really well together! SLURPS!

Final verdict. Chocolates and waffles never go wrong together. And Kit Kat too! I love it! But I have to say, the waffles is not as soft and yummy as the one from wild honey. But heys, please look at the price difference man! This is seriously not bad already!!!! But I really have no idea if the hardness of the waffle came from the cold or is the waffle hard by nature. Hmm..

Jumbo @ East Coast Park

Yet another seafood place. Well, when we are real stuck for Chinese restaurants (all the time when I bring my parents out), we have to head somewhere like this.

So, here we go.

The only thing that I picked! Hooray! I love baby squids!!! Yum yum. I love it. The sweet and spicy sauce and the crispy bbq squid. I think not everyone like it as much as I do, because I ate most them. Haha.

The pork floss toufu is not too bad too! I like the crispy skin and the sweet and spicy sauce that was below the toufu (more spicy than the baby squid). Yum yum. The pork floss did not bland very well with the toufu though. (Please note that we should have 9 pieces on the plate. Food was taken away before I can snap my photo!!!!)

Duck was pretty soft but I find the meat a little rough. Not something that I would expect from the thigh. Apparently, not the entire thigh was that rough. Pick properly! The sauce was good. I'm scared of mushrooms now. Haha.

Oh, the BBQ fish was great! Everyone was singing praises of it!! Nicely BBQ and the taste that went into the fish was great. It was the best dish as practically nothing was left at the end of the dinner. Haha.

Salted egg crab. My impression is that there should be more pork floss around. No? Hmm. Taste was not bad but the crab was not fresh enough. Ok, it was fresh but still, it sticks to the shell. Not something that I would expect from the amount of money I paid for. Ha.

This was the vegetable tempura that came with the crab. Oh, it reminds me of the Kan Eang at Phuket. The Phuket one was much better. This just tasted like a normal fried flour?

Chili crab with the bun at a distant. The crab was really fresh. I would say it is nice if I had not ate the ones at Auntie's place. There's not enough sweetness (tomato sauce I guess) and too much chili for this recipe. It's was a little disappointing for me. But the freshness of the big big crab made up a little of course.

Overall, I am not going to return unless I run out of Chinese restaurants again. But seriously, we do have quite a lot of places like Pu Tien that is so much better. I cannot say I did not enjoy the dinner because I did like the food albeit it was not fantastic. And the cost dimmed the entire thing by ALOT ALOT! I think I do not enjoy seafood as much as before now. Ha.
