Creation @ Shaw Tower

Girls are just girls. No matter how bloated they are, give them desserts, their tummy will open up more space to accommodate them. Been there, done that. It's true. Haha.

We were complaining about how freaking full we are and we decided that we cannot give these desserts a miss since we are at Shaw Tower! Ha!

Woooo. Vanilla ice cream with chocolate brownie. Slurps. Super sinful I know. But well, both of them usually go really nicely together! Hehs. Brownie was pretty nice, ice cream is just ice cream lo. Ha.

Apple crumble. All of us wanted to order this the moment we saw the menu. Haha. Woooo. I love the mixture of the warm crumble with the cold chocolate ice cream. This kinda mixture is my favorite! =D The crumble is soft and nice but a little too sweet for my liking.

Tiramisu. Looks really normal. And it looked really small and insignificant as compared to the other 2. Well, it's a tiramisu which does not have very strong coffee taste. Not too bad, but I would not go "OH MY GOD" that kinda expression. Ha!

This shows how happy we were! See the smiley face?? Hahaha! Maybe a little gloomy though. Ha!

Well, I would not make a special trip down there just to eat these desserts. However, if I am nearby, like at the Ah Loy Thai, it will be a nice place to sit down and continue our desserts here! Haha! And it's not that expensive because all three of them cost like, $14?

Pineapple Tarts from Taiwan!

Hehs. I was instructed to buy some local food back from Taiwan but I did not managed to go out shopping (BOOOO!!!). And so, I had to accomplish all my missions at the duty free shops. Haha. Yes, I raided the airport at the very last hour at Taiwan before returning to Singapore. HAHAHAHA!

Welllllll........ This was one of the thing that I bought it because I wanted to buy it and not because someone asked me to get it. Hehs. Pineapple tarts! The pineapple tarts in Taiwan is different from the ones we eat during CNY in Singapore. Haha. And I think they were really great.

And, how can I reject one with Mickey and Minne on it? Lol. And with all the sales girl using their life to endorse it. And when one girl told me that it's SO HOT online and it's almost impossible to get it. Lol.

The box is really cute!

And here's the inner packaging. Well, that's Mickey's head isn't it?? Hehs.

Tadang!

Well, I have to say, this is very very different from the pineapple tarts that I have gotta last time. There's a layer of sesame which is pretty fragrant to me. And the pastry is the crispy kind! But it will get really flaky. Another selling point of the tart is supposed to be the pineapple filling. Most of the other fillings have winter melon mixed in. This one is pure pineapple. And we can bite some of the puree.

But then, I find it a tad too sweet. I would really love it more if it's less sweet. Hehs. Not too bad if you ask me. However, it's not something that I would use my life to endorse. Hahahahaha! I think the vigor's pineapple tarts are way better. So, if you ever go Taiwan, look out for the vigor's pastries! They are really goood! Even my parents who don't really eat this kinda of stuffs agreed with me. PLUS, they don't bear to give the tarts away because they want to eat it. Haha. I'll find myself a chance to go back to Taipei and hopefully I'm able to buy them!

Oh by the way, if you are interested in trying this, I bought it at the Tao Yuan Airport T2's duty free shop. I cannot remember the exact shop name, but just turn right and go down once you clear the immigration. It's the first shop that sells Taiwan local food. Haha. I love that shop because I managed to find loads of Pooh Pooh stuffs from there! Ha!

=D

Ah Loy Thai @ Shaw Tower

I skipped Bollywood dancing for this dinner because my dear YX used her life to endorse this. Haha. And yes, I was not disappointed! =D

This place is very simple and laid back. It's not like restaurants, but I prefer this kinda of feel sometimes. Just a simple place with cheap and good food and great company around you.
So, Jon ordered this urm, fish maw kway tiao. I kinda like it. The soup went into the fish maw and thus made the fish maw very flavorful. The soup taste great. But urm, I would probably not order this dish because I'm not a fast eater. And if you don't eat fast, or you wish to wait for your friend, then you would just have to accept that your kway tiao is a little too soggy. Other than that, it's pretty good.

Ordered some side dishes too. Great recommendation babe!

So if I'm not wrong, this is the mango chicken. The mango is sweet, the chicken is crispy enough without losing the juiciness of the chicken and the sauce that is beneath the chicken is woooo, nice! Dip it with a little more sauce and it's going to be reallllly nice!!

Pandan chicken. Wooooo! Hahaha. (Why did I said 'Wooo' so many times now? Ha!) It's soooo nice!!! YUM YUM!! There's 2 sauces at each end of the plate. Dip the chicken with both the sauce and you will go "orh, orh, orh. NICE!!!" Haha. (Well, at least that's why the drama me did.)

It was really nicely grilled. I love the outer skin and the juicy chicken. Hehs.

Woooohooo! My favorite Phad Thai! That's what we have to eat when we go Thailand right? Hehs. Flavorful. Like! I like the way the different tastes blend together. But in my memory, this is not the best Phad Thai in my life so far. Nothing beats Kan Eang so far. =D

Pineapple rice! Not too bad I think. Well, from a spoon of the rice, that's my conclusion. Hahahahaha! Of course, I would love it more if there's pork floss sprinkled on top of it. Hehs. I cannot remember how it tasted anymore!

Glass noodles. Okay. This is really nice! All the sauce that was cooked with was practically sucked into the glass noodles! No? Haha. I love this loads!! Maybe because I've always been a great fan of glass noodles, and maybe because I really love it. Ha!

But well, although all the noodles/kway tiao/glass noodles etc are very flavorful and nice, I think the accompanying ingredients are not. Like the prawns, it's a little too overcooked for my liking. And it's not as fresh as I would love it to be. So I guess, that's the only complain I could find. BUT HEYS! All the noodles were exciting enough for me to overlook it. And if you don't really mind it that much, I would have to say, they are really generous in their serving sizes of the accompanying ingredients! Ha!

So, I need to return there again. Haha.

By the way, we spend around $60 for 6.5 people. Ha! And that included all our drinks! Hmm. Cheap and good. I LIKE!

Eateries outside the Cheng Huang Temple at Hsin-chu City

I loveeee this place. For the food, and for the temple of course (I'm a great temple hopping fan.)

You yu gen. Hehs. I loveee this. It's the same soup as shark fins minus the shark fins. Ha. I love the crispy thing and all the ingredients in the soup. Woo. Yum yum yum. Best thing on a cold weather I believe!

Ahh.. I cannot miss this when I come here. Gong Wang Tang! Hehs. Well, I know I know, it's just like our pork balls. BUT! It's so much bigger and bouncier and yummier. Hah. I think the basil leaves contributed a lot to the soup. It's the taiwanese's favorite qiu cheng ta~

My favorite Hsin-chu Mifen! Hehs. Texture, sauce, taste. Woooo! Mama can't cook the same thing even when I brought the same mee hoon back the last time. Ha! So, I have to eat here. LOL!

All were ordered from this corner shop at the back of the photo. Haha. This is what surrounds the temple's door. Hehs.

I have no idea what's the address. I always tell the taxi driver "Uncle, Cheng Huang Miao please."

Ha!

Ice cream cake from Bakery World

Yum Yum.

I think it's ice cream cake. But I was told that it is not! It's some cream cake. But, if we were to ice the cream, isn't it ice cream cake? Ha! Okay, at least that's my logic. But hehs. If not for the thought that I'm going to get real fat from it, I would have finished every single bit myself. Hahahahaha!

Ghim Moh Hawker Center

It's been really long since we last went there for lunch. Oh, it's still as yum yum as possible. Should I just let the picutres do the talking??

They are the reasons why hawker centers never get extinct no matter how bad the hygiene gets at time. With just a bit of money, you get to enjoy such yummy food. My gooooodness. Hehs. You know, I'm a more hawker type of person...... Hehs.

Brunch on Singapore Airlines

Hom. It was not as nice as the lunch. Or as I had imagined and remembered. LOL! But I still like the bread. And urm, that's it. Lol. It's not as bad as everyone described. I think it's still pretty yummy. LOL! My expectations aren't that high and their food aren't that bad!

It's just that, I wished for something more exciting. This kind of food are like normal food now. (Urm, if you see what I have been eating recently. LOL!)

Skinny Pizza at Raffles City Shopping Center

Okay. I thought I read something about it before. So, I thought I should try it when we chance upon it. I regretted immediately because I was thinking. AH! I love thick crust. And this is what? Skinny pizza! Gosh. Well, I did not move away and decided that we should continue through our meal. LOL!

And urm, we ordered the squid because it looked really special and we remembered people saying that it's nice. (Well, that's people's point of view, so we have to test it out!) My god. I'm so glad that we actually did it! Haha!

Look at the squid. Very tastefully done and the texture we good. My goodness. It's really very nice!

The whole pizza was realllly great! I have to take back my words. Skinny pizzas can be really nice too! Ha! It's a very new taste and we love it and we welcomed it. The vegetables went well together. Woo!

One thing to note is that, one pizza is definitely enough for two. Well, at least for both of us. Hehs. We were wondering if we should have ordered one or two. I was thinking of desserts after this, so we decided to go ahead with one. Nope, we have no space for desserts at the end. Ha!

Let me repeat again, it's really very nice! Haha. The pizza is really nice. LOL!

Well, as a potato fan, I decided to order this sweet potato strips. Wooooo~ Sweet, cripsy and yummy. =D The sesame was really fragrant and it contributed to the overall taste. Yum.

Just for these 2, we spend around $35 bucks. Yeap. The pizza is a little more expensive than what you will usually pay. But urm, this is good food. Ha! Not normal food you see. I paid for it gladly. LOL! Will definitely go back again to try more flavors. I think the cashew nuts look kinda nice. Wooo!

And oh, I think the staffs there are pretty friendly. That's a plus factor to a restaurant, isn't it?

Crystal Jade Versus Ding Tai Feng

Whatever Crystal Jade offers, Ding Tai Feng seems to offer it too. And it's same vice versa. So, which is better? Haha. Well, I actually went Ding Tai Feng a few days before I went over to Crystal Jade for almost the same thing. So, I can do a little comparison here! Ha!

(But I'm sorry that I did not have any photos for the Ding Tai Feng version. I take photos according to who I dine with. Ha!)

So first. Dan Dan Mian. Ha! This was introduced to me by Newsha and I think I have to try it because she seem to use her whole life to recommend it. Ha. I'm serious. Please look at her lighted face when she talk about this. Hahahaha!

So, I tried it. And, I was reallllllly happy about it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Well, basically, Dan Dan Mian is a peanut soup based noodles. The soup is a little spicy. But when I had it over at Ding Tai Feng (Let's just say DTF), it wasn't spicy at all! So, for the people who hates spicy stuffs, you can (1) have it at DTF (2) skip it (3) bear with the spiciness and eat it at Crystal Jade (CJ).

And, I chose option number 3. Hahahaha! Seriously, I wasn't prepared for the spiciness at all. But then, why did I continued eating was because of the rich rich peanut taste from the soup. My goodness. I was like "Ding!" when I drank the first spoonful. Haha. And the very next reaction was "OMG! Lai lai lai!" (That means spicy in Chinese.) LOL!

I prefer the CJ version for the peanut taste. Seriously, Dan dan mian is all for the peanut taste, no?

I never had this Hong You Chao Shou in my entire life until someone ordered for me for my dinner at Taiwan. (Thank you for the great choice! Haha!) From then on, I decided that this is a really nice thing and I have to order this whenever possible. And so I did. Haha.

I thought the ones at DTF were really good. But my man told me that the ones at CJ were better. I do not believe entirely. Ha! Come on, it was really good there! Haha. But okay, I swallowed my words when I tried the ones at CJ. I totally accepted the phrase "I told you so!". Haha.

Not only that it is bigger, the sauce was better, the meat was juicer. My goodness. This is good. But spicy of course. Ha! And oh, oily? It's the chili oil.

And, the biggest battle and the biggest selling product of both. Xiao. Long. Bao...!

Haha. I always had the ones at CJ. I had it at DTF long time ago but I have already forgot the taste. I just rmb that I said that it's not very nice. Well, tried it again recently and still, I think, it's just pretty normal. Hehs.

BUT!!!! When we had it at CJ. WoooooHOOOOOO! Yummy. The soup, the filling, the skin texture was so much better! And the ginger they gave was finer and I like it that way.

My man always order this cha jiang mian. So of course, it's on our must order list. Lol. Urm, nothing too special over at DTF, but I see that he enjoyed this over at CJ. Haha. Need I say anymore?

The biggest difference between the 2 is definitely the portion size. Everything. From noodles to the xiao long bao. CJ is so much bigger. We were not full from the noodles from DTF but we cannot finish our noodles over at CJ. And you know, somethings are better when it's bigger. I need my mouth full of them. Haha.

So, I guess, I still prefer CJ over DTF. =D

(Oh, maybe it's because of the different branches? I had my DTF outside Universal Studio while I had my CJ at Ngee Ann City.)

So, what's your verdict?

JI De Chi @ Plaza Singapura

I was searching for ice shavings in Singapore because I missed the ice shavings over at Taipei one day. Hehs. And then, this place popped out in my search. Loads of raving about the traditional chinese desserts and the ice shavings. So, of course I have to go. Had a pleasant surprise when I found it at PS because I was planning to go to somewhere at Bugis for it! Haha!

It actually took over my favorite ice monster. So well. It better be good. Ha!

We decided to try the tun nai. Urm, just because we always see the Hong Kong people in Hong Kong drama serials ordering it. Haha! And urm, it tasted kinda like bean curd to me. But instead of the bean taste, it has milky taste. I think it's really smooth and I kinda like it. My man on the other hand thinks it's too milky. He felt like a baby drinking milk now. Hahaha!!

I love the traditional bowl. It gives a traditional setting. Ha!

Okay, so, I came for the ice shaving, I have to choose one. Well, I think I should have ordered the mango ice like most people in the restaurant. GAH! Ya, no point regretting my choice. I picked this because I'm still reminiscing over my green tea dessert over at Shin. Plus, I never said no to macha plus red beans. WOOOOOO~~~

Red beans, too sweet. Felt real synthetic.

Nata de coco I believe. It's synthetic.

Mochi. Lack of texture and it tasted synthetic.

Weird green tea taste. Really synthetic.

Oh wells, I'm disappointed.

I'm keeping faith that the mango ice will taste better. But then come again, I may not want to go back there again. Perhaps for the traditional ones? Urm, let me consider again ok?
