Black Canyon Coffee at Batam Megamall

Remember that I once talked about the Black Canyon Coffee sometime back? Well, if you don't, click on the link to refresh yourself! Hahahahaha!

Black Canyon Coffee was actually started in Thailand and it was one of the more popular coffee place. And this place does not just sell coffee! They also sell THAI FOOD! And also some western cuisines of course. But the thing is, THAI FOOD!!! Hahahaha! I repeat again, THAI FOOD!!! Lol. I was so elated when I saw this at the Batam Center Shopping Center when I went there for a short weekend with my parenets and the man the other time! *BEAMS*

Very refreshing juice.

Loooove their lime juice!
Okay. Mango salad. If you look carefully at the mango salad, you will realize that it looked a little different from the usual green hard mangoes you find in mango salads. The mango they used was really pretty special to me. It's sweet and soft! The entire dish was really very appetizing. What made it perfect was the sauce they used for the salad. YUMS! *A word of caution. The spring onion look alike is actually chili padi!*

I had been giving raving reviews about their phat thai. PHAT THAI PHAT THAI PHAT THAI! This dish is actually a thai styled fried kway tiao. It is sweet and is a little wet. From what I see, most of the phat thai was served with a tray of several different toppings like sugar, dried chili and a seasoning. I tend to add them all into the phat thai and it raised the fragrant of the entire dish. I have to say, they did it pretty well and I love it. It's definitely not up to the standard of what I have had in Thailand, but it's definitely better than any that I had had in Singapore! YUMS!

Fried rice was really fragrant! This was the salted fish fried rice. Pretty nicely done for just frying rice with some simple ingredients which we can find at home really easily. I like eating the rice with the peanuts. Hehs.

Tom yum soup was really good. It was not that spicy (okay, I admit, we ordered the less spicy version and thus we have no chili padi added). But the nice thing about it was that it is not like most of the tom yum soup that is just spicy and spicy and sour. It has the tom yum taste. Like, we can taste the fragrance of the spices that they had added in. Tom yum is not just about being spicy and sour! It has to give us the aroma of the things that they had added in too! This was good!

Lamb chop rice was pretty normal I have to say. But it was really pretty. Haha. Heard that it was one of the best seller. Of course the lamb chop was nicely done. Not smelly and it was tender too. It's just that it dimmed in comparison to the other food that we had ordered. Haha! The soup that came along with the rice was really normal beside the tom yum soup. Lol.

I was really very happy after the lunch at this place. The moment I came home, I started looking for a branch in Singapore. Yesh. There is one in Fushionopolis!! Woooohooo! But. The sad thing is. The dishes are not as fantastic as the ones I had in Phuket and Batam. Even though it was still pretty good, it's not good as I had remembered. Hehs.

Ah Loy Thai @ Shaw Tower

I skipped Bollywood dancing for this dinner because my dear YX used her life to endorse this. Haha. And yes, I was not disappointed! =D

This place is very simple and laid back. It's not like restaurants, but I prefer this kinda of feel sometimes. Just a simple place with cheap and good food and great company around you.
So, Jon ordered this urm, fish maw kway tiao. I kinda like it. The soup went into the fish maw and thus made the fish maw very flavorful. The soup taste great. But urm, I would probably not order this dish because I'm not a fast eater. And if you don't eat fast, or you wish to wait for your friend, then you would just have to accept that your kway tiao is a little too soggy. Other than that, it's pretty good.

Ordered some side dishes too. Great recommendation babe!

So if I'm not wrong, this is the mango chicken. The mango is sweet, the chicken is crispy enough without losing the juiciness of the chicken and the sauce that is beneath the chicken is woooo, nice! Dip it with a little more sauce and it's going to be reallllly nice!!

Pandan chicken. Wooooo! Hahaha. (Why did I said 'Wooo' so many times now? Ha!) It's soooo nice!!! YUM YUM!! There's 2 sauces at each end of the plate. Dip the chicken with both the sauce and you will go "orh, orh, orh. NICE!!!" Haha. (Well, at least that's why the drama me did.)

It was really nicely grilled. I love the outer skin and the juicy chicken. Hehs.

Woooohooo! My favorite Phad Thai! That's what we have to eat when we go Thailand right? Hehs. Flavorful. Like! I like the way the different tastes blend together. But in my memory, this is not the best Phad Thai in my life so far. Nothing beats Kan Eang so far. =D

Pineapple rice! Not too bad I think. Well, from a spoon of the rice, that's my conclusion. Hahahahaha! Of course, I would love it more if there's pork floss sprinkled on top of it. Hehs. I cannot remember how it tasted anymore!

Glass noodles. Okay. This is really nice! All the sauce that was cooked with was practically sucked into the glass noodles! No? Haha. I love this loads!! Maybe because I've always been a great fan of glass noodles, and maybe because I really love it. Ha!

But well, although all the noodles/kway tiao/glass noodles etc are very flavorful and nice, I think the accompanying ingredients are not. Like the prawns, it's a little too overcooked for my liking. And it's not as fresh as I would love it to be. So I guess, that's the only complain I could find. BUT HEYS! All the noodles were exciting enough for me to overlook it. And if you don't really mind it that much, I would have to say, they are really generous in their serving sizes of the accompanying ingredients! Ha!

So, I need to return there again. Haha.

By the way, we spend around $60 for 6.5 people. Ha! And that included all our drinks! Hmm. Cheap and good. I LIKE!

I always thought I have to go Thailand just to eat them!

Haha. I have been missing Thai food ever since I left Phuket. The images of our last dinner just keep surfacing, but I haven't really found the chance to go ThaiExpress (haha, my favourite place!). I had a pleasant surprise when my brother called and told me that Rainie is going to cook for us. And, I get to place my order! Hohohoho.

No idea why but the first thing that came to my mind was Phat Thai. Oh, it's a must eat at Thailand anyway. Beautifully done, isn't it?

Phat Thai
To be fair, the one we had at Phuket was way nicer. But, this was not too bad either! Just that it was one of the first dish cooked. Thus, it got a little dry after being exposed to the air for too long. But it made me happy enough. Hehs.

Mummy asked for mango salad, another must eat over at Thailand!

Mango Salad
Woo. It's so spicy but we cannot stop eating it. Yum yum. Haha. My mama just learned how to cook from her. Hahaha. But, less spicy pleaseeeee.....

And then she cooked the stir fried pork with basil leaves. It was the first dish we actually had in Phuket because we were that hungry and the place was just outside our hotel. Hahahaha! Yums. I thought hers was better, but a spicier version. Hahaha!

Stir fried pork with basil leaves.
And then, the legendary seafood tom yum soup.

Seafood tom yum.
Erm. It look as spicy as it taste. LOL. Or rather, it tasted as spicy as it looked. I was never a great fan of tom yum soup anyway. But, I'm still attracted by the spiciness ALL THE TIME! ARGH! Is it possible to have the same taste, without the spiciness??!! Haha.

She just felt like drinking this soup. Haha.

I thought this was the end of the Sunday dinner. Who knows, I had another pleasant surprise on Monday! Hohohoho! The super super super super super nice thai steam fish. Gosh. The soup was so well done. The fish is so pretty. Haha. It really tasted the same as the one we had the last dinner! YUM YUM! I would have finished everything if I did not have to leave for the family. Haha.

Steam fish.
And to top it off, I asked for pineapple rice today. Haha.

Pineapple rice
Look so pretty right? I was so surprised at how pretty it look. Well, considering the fact that I'm eating at HOME. Haha. The pineapple was really sweet! I like. Erm, mama added a little too much water for the rice though. But I still think it was pretty nicely flavored and I haven't ate so much rice since so long ago! Hahaha. I love the taste that the leaves gives. Hehs. I fell in love with it after tasting it for the first time in Taiwan. You must understand that I am someone who don't like vegetables once upon a time. I must be growing old eh? Haha.

I really really want to learn how to cook all these stuffs from her sia. Haha. The man is going to be so proud of me! And, he will probably stop asking me to eat out! Haha. He have not satisfy my emotional need of wanting to cook for him. LOL! He always tell me it's cheaper to eat out. Hahaha! I have loads of chance to learn it in near future. Ha!

Eating in Phuket - Kan Eang 2

Hehs. The Kan Eang restaurant that I had been raving about and comparing to all the places we have been to! It's realllllly the best~ Haha.

This place is in a very secluded area. So if you ever ever want to go to this place, please book a taxi, to and fro. You'll regret it if you din do it! Because, there's no car at sight at all. Haha.

The moment you walk into the place, you'll heart soft music in the background. Everything just look really classy. Not alot of photos were taken because we've forgot my camera! Oh damn. Of all the places!!! But thank god there's something called the camera photo. Well, I would say that the photos were not really well done too. Thank god there's something called photos editing. Haha. Now the photos look so much better. Haha! But wells, back to the place. It's right beside the beach, so there's small waves washing up the shore. And the lights were really very warmish kinda yellow. The brightest part will be your own table, whereby the light shines directly onto your food. Haha!

When we opened the menu, we were so so so shocked! We thought we were conned into this place. Because the seafood was much more expensive than the ones we had at the palm! Lobsters were more expensive. Oh, we wanted to eat it. We seriously wanted to leave for other places. But we learned that the nearest place has alot of dogs along the way. And then, we need a car if we want to go the other way. And in the end, the other place is Kan eng 1. Which is the same place sia......

After flipping the menu a little more, we realized that, erm, the thai food is really very cheap! Haha. And I guess the seafood is more expensive because they're alive. Not like most of the places which sell dead seafood. Hehs. So we set down and order and we wanted to order ALOT!

Clams? Lala? Hehs. They were really good. But I find them too spicy for my tongue. Lol!

The Phad thai was the best phad thai that I had ate in my life so far. Haha. I've only tried Thai express and the phuket and the bangkok ones? Lol! But it was really good. It could be because we were really starving and it was one of the first few dishes orders. But we ordered another 2 plates. LOL!

Spicy mango salad. My god. It's nice but spicy. Hehs. But that's how mango salads should be done right? LOL!

I forgot if this is tom yum kun or the seafood one. Hehs. Forgot the taste already. But then, I rmb it as a very spicy one. I cannot even really finish my first bowl at all. But it was really good. However, after drinking it, we need to eat a lot of other things to 'neutralize' the spiciness! Haha.

After a while, as the dishes come up one by one, we (or rather ah dear) got so engrossed in eating that no more food photos were taken. And, there were the nicer ones! Lol. I forgot why he din pass me his phone either. But I'll remember my camera the next time! Haha!

We tried their morning glory. It was surprisingly delicious.

The fish. We steamed it the Chinese style. My gawd. It was SO FRESH and SO NICE and SO SWEET and the soup was SO JUST RIGHT! Haha. It was the exact same thing as the one we had at Palm at Patong beach. That was nothing comparable to the one we had at Kan Eng 2! The fish really really did not die for nothing. It died a honorable death. Haha! I bet their other seafood were equally fresh and nice. NEXT TIME!

We also tried something that's seaweed tempura with prawn. Haha. I have to say. Just give me the seaweed and the sauce, I'm a happy Kelly already. LOL! The prawn was abit out of place because of the shell. You know the feeling of eating fried prawns with the shell? Lol. Very piercing, I would say. But the sauce made our day! Even though we were really full. Haha!

Oh, pineapple rice! That was good too. We were having a debate on whether the pineapple or Phad thai is better. We have to order another serving you see. Phad Thai won. Even though I think the Pineapple deserve a second serving too. The pineapple taste was really good!

Other than the coconut, I think, that's all we had ordered ba......The coconut was not just coconut orh. They named it 'Young Coconut'. Haha. Which means, their flesh is really soft and tender. Yeap. They delivered that! But I would like to have a young adult though. Then their flesh would be slightly thicker. Hahaha!

All in all, it was a really filling and wonderful dinner.

We left as very happy customers wanting and wishing to be back there every moment!

And mind you. We ate alot, we din spend alot! Inclusive of service charge, we only spend 1600 baht (=S$70). We ordered so much food and 5 coconuts and 1 soft drink! The fish was only 350 baht lo. So amazing! You cant get such good food at such great price so easily ba? Hehs.

It's a red alert recommendation! Please go there when you go Phuket one day! It's a must go! And it's a hidden gem because most of the people there are actually locals! Haha. =)

Oh by the way, did I mention that the service was pretty good? Hehs. How much more do I have to convince you to go there???? Hahaha!

Eating in Phuket - The Orchid

If you are talking about not too bad thai food nearer to our place, Orchid is the one. It's just next to our hotel. You dun even need to go down the slope at all! But, the food was just okok only. Good enough to fill your stomach. And not too bad if you haven went to Chalong for their thai food! Hahahaha!

Ah dear thinks this is nice!

We think that the gravy was nice. This is fried beef with basil leaf. Ya right, their fried is stir fry lo. Lol! But this was good.

The phat thai was not too bad. But it felt about the same as thai express though. Hehs. So, not the standard we should want to find in thailand ba? haha.

Papaya salad is also another must eat in Thailand. It was not too spicy. Taste wise, just ok only ba. Hehs.

The girls tried the tom yum soup too when they reached. Our conclusion: it's not nice! Not spicy and sour enough. Hmm. No good! Hahahaha.

Overall, this place is a good place if you are so hungry that you need food asap and you are just at the hotel. Haha. Other than that, dun need to try because there are so much more better food around!
