Provence wassant buns

I had Provence breads quite some time ago. And I fell in love with them! I believe the top top seller of the bakery has to be their wassant buns, which are the small small buns you see below. But then, recently, I noticed that more and more bakeries are coming out with them. And when my mama buy them for me, I would just eat them and say "yum yum". Hahaha.

But every single time I ate the original Provence's buns again, I can't help but notice a difference. The original one was better!

(Didn't take my favorite chocolate because they are hiding inside my tummy. Ha!) Well, I felt that there's an extra crispiness around the Provence one. Not exactly crispy but it felt that there's a more defined outer layer as compared to the others that I had tried. Plus, I felt that the chocolate taste better from Provence. Well, no one had noticed it and no one really agreed with me because everyone thinks that they are really similar. BUT NO! It's really different! LOL!

But then, come again, if Provence is so far away and we have a four leave bakery nearby, I don't really mind eating them. The difference is not that huge anyway. Hehs.

Wild Honey @ Mandarin Gallery

I have been craving for American breakfast since long long time ago. I want big big sausage, yummy scrambled egg, potatoes, good bread. Not too difficult to ask for I would say. But it gets a little difficult if you are never up/ at the restaurant when they are still serving breakfast.

So, Wild Honey to the rescue! Woohoo! It serves full day breakfast. So even if I want to eat it after work, it's perfectly ok!! And yeap, that was what I did! Hehs.

Beware of the queue man. Because it is opened till 1030, I suggest that you can reach around 9. So that you don't have to wait for more than 1 hour for it. This long wait is the only complain I can think of.

Ok, that was nothing to do with the review, but I like them! The sugar cubes look so nice. Haha. And okay, I was actually a little bored waiting for my food. Haha.

Tadang. Dish number one. Cookie. This cookie actually cost $4 each. I have no idea why, but we paid for it glady. Hehs.

So, it has chocolate coating on half the cookie. The other side of the cookie also have half coated with chocolates. Hehs. I guess this would make sure that we are not overloaded with chocolates. Because this is the first thing we have after such a long wait, I approach it with weary. Haha. It turned out to be really good! Woohoo!

Softness was good. It can be broken with the spoon and scooped to the mouth. And it's not like the soggy softness you know? Haha. It was good. Yum yum!

And then we realized that hey! There's maple syrup between the 2 cookies! And we don't find the whole thing very sweet. Hehs. Nice. First step to heaven.

Apparently this Queen B is one of the most popular mocktail at Wild Honey. We ordered it and it tasted really different. Haha. It has grapefruit and something. First mouth was "Eh? Hmm." After that, it became "Hmm. Nice! Hahaha."

And now, the most anticipated moment.

First, my craving was satisfied with the English breakfast. Everything that I had asked for. Or even more than I had. Because it had nice sauteered mushrooms and yummy baked beans. Haha. My goodness. This is huge! We are in heaven. Hahahahaha.

I was hooked by the potatoes. Nicely baked and the sprinkle of salt on it made it tasted really good. You can taste the salt but you won't complain about it because it was that which made it yums.

The sausage was heavenly. Seriously. Crunchy on the outside because of the grilled skin. Tight and woooo on the inside. It was thick as I wanted it. But too bad. It was a little small. Especially when 4 people are sharing it. Hahaha! But I think we can order a side order for the sausage. Good. I will do it. Haha!

The mushrooms were a surprise. Nicely flavored and grilled. Wooo!

Scrambled egg. Not very special but it was important in this entire English breakfast. My god.

I did not managed to take a photo of the baked beans. It was so special! A little spicy and it was really big! Nothing like the normal baked beans they use from cans! Woohoo! YUMMMMMMS! I love the English breakfast! And the bread that came along was really good. I always love steamed bread more than toasted bread. But this combination was too good to be true. Lightly toasted on the outside but the softness of the bread inside was not sacrificed. This is crazy. Oh, the bacon too! It's oh my god. A little too salty for my liking but if I eat it with other things then, it's heavenly! Best bacon I have ever tasted. I want to bring the chef home. Haha.

Please note that we are already in heaven. So, the remaining dishes kept us in heaven for a long long time. Haha.

Next up, the Tunisian breakfast. Oh god. How can all the spices fuse together like this? It has 2 fried eggs, some sausages (goood!!). Don't underestimate it. My goodness. Take the nicely toasted bread and dip into the sauce. You will scream "I'm in heaven!". Hahaha. Ok, I think most of the people are not exactly as dramatic as me, but you get the gist here.

Taken from their menu: Canadian - A stack of classic pancakes served with wild berry and hibiscus compote, Canadian maple syrup and bacon.

Understatement I would say. It should read: Canadian - A stack of classic super fluffy and soft pancakes served with crazily nice and tastefully done wild berry and hibiscus compote, terribly nice Canadian maple syrup and out of the world delicious bacon. This was the best bacon that I had tasted in my life. I'm serious. Because of this, 3 of us had a new respect for pigs. Haha. I like this bacon more than the English breakfast because it's not that salty. When we eat it with the pancakes and pour maple syrup over it and then top it up with a little berries, you will scream "I'M IN HEAVEN!". Haha. Max prefers the English breakfast bacon because it's more fatty. Haha.
Last one, Belgian breakfast. The waffles were crazily fluffy and soft. The coconut cream was just nice. Not too thick or what as YX had feared. Mangoes were terribly sweet. Blueberries were like berries lo. Toasted coconut flakes went really well with the waffles. My goodness. If you know me and YX well enough, you will know how much we love and worship flour products. Hahaha. This got us crazy as well.

All of us were in heaven. The entire meal put too much food to shame. And it gave a new meaning to pigs. Thank you for your sacrifice. And please, do not destroy all the wheat on Earth for we will definitely cry and die. Haha.

*Smiling so happily before we attacked the food because we were already very amazed with the whole presentation of the food. Spend quite a fair bit of money on breakfast ($30 each) but we paid happily. It was definitely all worth it. Service there was good as well. Staff were helpful. Lighting was a little too dark for a breakfast place (and thus lousy food photos). But good for after work. Haha. Not a lot of photos taken because I HAVE TO ATTACK THE FOOD! Haha.

Will definitely pull more people there again. It's highly highly highly recommended! Please go!!

Address: Mandarin Gallery #03-02
Note: No reservation. You have to wait terribly long! Haha. Try to go real early or real late. Hehs.

Mugiya Bakery

I was just standing around the area and this bakery totally caught my attention as any bakery that I had never seen would. Hahaha. Walked towards it and found myself talking to the people about the different bread because they look kinda cute. Well, to me, at least.

2 breads caught my attention. Hehs. Their names did not managed to tell me what it contains ma.... Hahaha!

It's like, you look at the name, would you know what the hell it is?! LOL! Well, after some enquiries, it appears that the bread contains different floss inside. And then, one is with cheese and one is without. Haha! As simple as that. But I had a hard time communicating with the person there though. >.<

Because we are supposed to go for dinner soon, I can only buy one bread for myself. Haha. I picked the paper bread or something like that (2nd photo). I was really stupid you know? I thought the paper means that you eat with the paper or something. I was so quizzical at how I should eat it!! Hahaha! But then, I realized, we cannot eat the paper even though there's paper on the bread. And the name. Ha!

*I learn it the hard way.*

Seriously, I really did not catch what the person was describing at all. So it was only after I bite the bread and then realized that it's just a floss bread! Hahahaha! But I have to say, the floss was really nice! Not as 'machine feel' as the breadtalk bread. A little more natural and laid back. And the texture and the softness of the bread is always what I deem as the most important. Good. It passed! It's the kinda softness that I like!! Woohoo!

I almost turned back to pick up a few more home. But no. I didn't. Hahaha.

Address: City Square Mall #B1-36
Opening Hours: 9 am to 10 pm

Old Town Coffee and Toast cafe, Soup Spoon and Ikea

I fell in love with Old Town the last time I went to Genting. Ah dear was sooooo hungry the moment we touched down, and so he bought quite a lot of Old Town toast. My god, I remembered it was an agonizing long wait for the toast! But hey, it was really nice! =D And then when we reached Genting, we bought more again! Me like me like! Hehs.

(Under poor lighting, iPhone sure takes lousy picture! That's the problem when I don't bring my camera out everyday. Haha!)

Old Town started off from Malaysia, but now, you can find their instant coffee everywhere! But hmm, I'm not a great fan of coffee. I don't like the smell of it. BUT! I thought the white coffee was NICE! Haha. And, it was a great companion in the cold cold Genting. Haha.

So, I got really happy when I saw it in Singapore! Haha. I went to get some toasts to calm my growling stomach since I was at NTU the other day. =D Oh, that made me really happy even though I'm supposed to be on a strict diet. Hahaha!

In case you are looking for the branch in JP, here's the address. It's neatly tucked away on the top front, near the NTUC xtra. Hehs.

Well, as I was saying, I was on a strict diet. So, I only ordered one toast (it was a taboo too cos that's not liquid diet at all!) and no white coffee (I cannot take caffeine products). I was happy enough!

Seriously, I had long forgotten the taste of the toast. The last time I tasted it seems so long ago. Haha. So, I only remembered it as very nice. But, I expected the taste of a normal toast. Oh, but the moment I bite in, I have to go 'Ohhhhhhh....'. (If you know me well enough, ya, I gave that lighted up face that I always give when I eat something nice. Hahaha!) Ya, alone, in the middle of JP2. Lol!

I'm seriously craving for moreeeeeee.

==========================================================================

I love going to Ikea. Not because of furniture, not because of meatballs and chicken wings, but because of THIS! My favourite hot dog bun! Haha. Actually, I think it's not too difficult to find hotdog buns like this around. But, since we are near Ikea, I have an excuse to eat a hotdog bun that can make me smile non-stop. =D So, why not? Hehs.

I love steam bread! Because they are always so soft and yummy!

==========================================================================

Went to soup spoon on Friday after Ikea since there's buses to Vivo. BOO! That's not exactly what I would love to eat when I'm at Vivo city! Haha. But well, considering that I should attempt to eat as much healthy food that's smoothing to my stomach, OK FINE!

But erm, no, I wun want to go back there for dinner anytime in future. Seriously, I felt really miserable through the entire dinner. You should ask Ah dear for my gloomy face la. Haha.

The main reason why I felt miserable was seriously not because the soup is not nice. But mainly because I need more texture other than plain soup for a meal. If it's the starters, I would not mind that much. Oh, blame it on my stomach. Haha!

That's ah dear's clam chowder. Quite nice! Haha. At least there are ingredients to chew chew chew. Hehs.

My pumpkin soup (because ah dear say I cannot eat tomato. BOO!). Grrrr... I want MEAT! Or at least vegetables! Haha. It was a little sweet. Hehs. First few mouths were really good. I got so sick and tired of the taste after some time. I didn't finish the whole bowl. Haha.

Please do not ask me there to drink soup for dinner again!

==========================================================================

Realized something? My main reviews are on bread bread and more bread! Lol! This explains how much I love eating bread. Hehs.

Provence Bread

Don't ask me why did I keep raving about how delicious certain breads are. Haha. Because, they are like my life. I cannot live without them. I simply love their texture, their softness and their taste! Haha. Especially with my current stomach condition, bread seems to be a magic food to me. Hahaha. Ah dear and mummy ask me to just eat bread for all my meals to save all trouble. LOL! I really wanted to. If not for a balanced diet..... Haha.

Back to Provence bread. I hope I din get their name wrong! =X Hehs. I'm so super bad at names...... Hehs. Even dishes names and restaurants names! Haha. To make sure that I've got it right, here's the plastic bag. Lol!

The Provence bakery and cafe is actually a Japan and French fusion. They make really nice bread. Ok, at least their signature breads are really nice! Haha. They have a few branches around. But I'm only familiar with the ion one. Not too sure of the location at Holland Village. And according to their website, there's a few other branches too. Go check it out yourself! Haha.

I love the way the cafe look, by the way. Hehs.

So far, I've tried a few of them. And nothing beats their chocolate wassant!!!! Yes, it's a tad expensive. 60 cents for one. And even if you buy 10, there's no further discount. Hahaha. Like, what's the point right? Should be buy more get more free de ma.... But nvm. Hahaha. Please pardon my lousy photo. They taste better than they look. I SWEAR!!! But just looking at the photo made me want to take the whole bag and start munching now.....

Haha. I was going home from the hospital today and I realized that I'll be going pass Orchard. So, I made an impromptu decision to alight to pick them up to make myself a happier person. Haha. I've been yearning for the since the last time I finished the last wassant (that's like, on the day I went Phuket! 2 July 2010. LOL!)

And although I think I don't have the tummy condition to eat so much, the flavor of the bread made me want to try it! Green tea and melon! Haha. I'm a fan of green tea you see.... Haha. (Only the japan one. Not the jasmine one! Hehs.) I cannot wait to try it tomorrow! =)

The other 2 that I've tried were the kaya and the cream wassants. Texture wise were comparable. But I still prefer the choco ones. Because of the nice smell that comes out of the choco wassant. The whiff you get the moment you pick them up. *Slurps* Haha.

Also tried their coffee cinnamon. I have to say, I'm not a fan of coffee and really sweet stuffs. So, that wasn't my cup of tea. But, it's not to the point of not nice. It's just that, compared to my choco wassant, they are not that nice. Haha! I'm biased. LOL!

And this! Cinnamon sugar. Wah. That was really sweeet! Ah dear finds it nice. That's why he bought it for me! But urm, it's sweet. Other than that, not too bad. Haha. I'm sure people who like sugars will like them more than I do. Haha!

All in all. This is my favouritest bakery in Singapore, currently. Hahaha. Because of the choco wassants. LOL! Please do tell me if you find any nice bakeries around! I would love to find new favouritest bakeries! Hahaha.

Actually theres's one at Yishun, near ah dear's house. It's called Breadman. And oh, there's another one at Woodlands. Near the town council. They have really niceeee bread too! Wooo. I feel hungry now....... =X

DayPlus Bread

Have you ever came across this bread in your life in Singapore before? Well, I had.

My first encounter with the bread was a few years back when Max offered the bread to me during some lessons because I was too hungry. Hahaha! Upon finishing the first one, I've decided that I am going to go looking for it because it was so good! But I think, I forgot all about it, or I couldn't find it. Haha.

But I found it once again in 7-11. It brought back all the wonderful memories of how good the bread was. Haha. I'm serious. It's soft and the smell is great. I think I can have it every single day! LOL. Because, I'm a bread lover.

But when you look at the flavor outside the package, you would most probably think that there's some filling inside right? I really really really thought so. So the first time I tried the Hokkaido cream, I was trying to pry the entire bread apart so that I can get to the cream area in the center. No. I cannot find it!

It was only then that I actually realized that, hey, the strong smell of the flavor is just around the entire bread! There's no big crater for the filling! Oh, that's something that I love. Because I love the texture of breads more than the filling itself. But, I would like to have the filling too of course. This bread totally saved my day! Hahahahaha! I can have both the smell and the texture right at the same time. So that makes me happy, and it makes me want to have more of the bread! Hahaha.

But there are some flavors that are not like this of course. Their red bean, white chestnut, purple potato etc, have the real fillings. Hehs. I find them a tad sweet. And I prefer the ones without the filling. But I have to say, the white chestnut was nice! According to them, they have a special new flavor once in a while. I guess the purple potato is the new one. Tried it, ah dear din find it special at all. Hahaha.

But what really amazed me was that, despite the Japanese look of the packaging (yes, I am a sucker towards Japanese products! I admit!), it is a product of Singapore!

If I had not look carefully at the packaging, I would not have thought that it was from Singapore! Haha. But they claims that the ingredients are from Japan. I dun care where they get their ingredients from. So long they give me nice, good quality bread with the texture I like, I'll be a great fan of them! =)

Anyway, they can be found at 7-11, cold storage and some convenience stores. Oh, the shop beside the food court at Biopolis have them too! Most places sells it at $1.20 per bread. But the econs mini mart at ah dear's place sells it at $1. LOL! Ok, I sounded a little auntie here. HAHAHAHA!

*Psst, blueberry and melon is currently my top top top top top top flavor! =) =)
