Ayam Penyet Ria at Jurong Point

Decided to drop by the Ayam Penyet Ria again because I was going back to NTU. Hehs. It's a very tucked away place that many people did not hear of. Well, it's at the old JP, basement, around the nice egg tarts, NTUC and Watsons. Ha.

The first time I encountered Ayam Penyet was in NTU when the new canteen A opens. After that, I fell in love with it, especially the crispies! I always order extra crispies (the fried thing on top). Haha. Penyet means flatten, so, this Indonesia dish is a flat piece of chicken. I preferred drumstick over breastmeat! And this place seems to only offer drumstick! Hohoho!

We decided that we should try other dishes. This whole place is delicated to many different penyets and not just ayam! So, we tried this cumi cumi penyet (baby squid). Hohohohoho! It took my heart away. It's really nice and crispy. And dipping the squid into the chili made it great! Yum yum. My man was nice enough to offer me a lot of it because he can see that I like it loads. Hahaha! But heys, it's super oily sia. I mean, not when you eat it but when you look at the empty plate. Haha.

The baby squid.
I have no idea what is this name. It tasted special. I feel that it came from some beans. Not too bad. But not something that I will want to order separately for. Haha. It came with the ayam penyet.

Kang kong is good. But better with the chili. It's too plain. A good balance with such an oily meal. Haha.

The chili is SO SPICY! I really really cannot take it! Omg! Haha. But I see my man putting it on his every bite. Haha. But seriously, the chili did made the dish taste better. Without it, it would be a little plain.

The ever famous ayam penyet. Well, they named the shop with this eh! Haha!

Good. I will definitely go back to try other dishes. There's a new soft shell crab on the menu. Woah. Penyet soft shell crab? Interesting. Hehs.

Chin Chin Eating House @ Purvis Street

Well, this was certainly not something that we have planned for. But the place we have planned for has closed its kitchen for lunch. So no choice, we went down Purvis Street looking for food. Hehs. Since it was recommended by Weng and Kelvin, alrights! Here we go.

Very laid back Chinese place I would say. Simple food fare. Something that I always love. =D Cheap and nice and yummy! Isit it great? Hehs.

This is Weng's favourite. The pork chop. It was cooked in tomato sauce (but a little diluted in the tomato taste, as in most of the chinese food). It came so fast that we were so amazed. Sad thing was that the dish was not piping hot! Boo!

The pork was thinly sliced and fried before cooking in the sauce of theirs. I would prefer more tomato taste (I think it was because I love the way my mama cook at home. Hehs.) Texture was not too bad. But I wanted to comment is that, it's erm, pork chop lo. Haha. You know what I mean.

I love the way they cook their potato because I love the way my mama cooks it too! They just cut the potato and fry it a little to give the nice coating I love in potatoes. And then, now it goes with the dish too. Apparently, it is not very obvious because I was the only one who noticed the potatoes. Haha!

Vegetables were normal. Nothing too exciting about it.

The best is the chicken! Woohoo! I loveee it. Hehs. It's soft and the sauce is nice. Best thing: DEBONED! Hahaha. I don't like chickens with bones you see. Hehs. *Pampered* But this was half a chicken so hehs, quite a big serving right? Nice! It's currently one of my favouritest chicken rice now! Hahahaha.

They gave us a bowl of soup each. Well, nothing special about it.

I ordered their luo han guo drink. It's some herbal tea that's cooling for us. Hehs. I like!!!

I really got a surprise when I open up the cup to look at the contents. They are really very very generous with their serving of the longans! Woohoo! I ate them all out. Haha. But you would have to open the cup in order to access them of course. Haha!

On the whole, not too bad but not very fantastic for the chi cha but pretty good for the chickens! Not too bad a try if you are at Purvis street because we are unable to find a place to really enter you see. Hehs.

I really have no idea how much it cost because it's paid before I realized it. I forgot to ask. But I know that it's supposed to be pretty cheap. Address wise. Sorry, since we bounce in, I have no idea. Hahahaha! But just walk along Purvis Street. The chickens will be something you will not miss!

Wee Nam Kee chicken rice at Novena

I had tried their chicken rice way way back in history. I think when I was pretty young and my taste buds had not actually developed too much yet. LOL! I remembered it as a very nice chicken rice place. But well, this had been put to the back of my mind till W suggested going there for our foodie tour 2010.

Well, the man put it as the first stop of our day long of itinerary.

It was pretty crowded when we reach. But, the crowd managed to disperse pretty fast. LOL! There's quite a few young faces. So I guess, reviews about food really do spread. Haha.

It was super super warm by the time we got our seat. Hehs. Because we are a little pressed for stomach space (we have a day long of food battle!), we only ordered half a chicken to be shared among 6 people. Haha. They allowed us to take half of each! It seriously looked more than half a chicken, right? Hehs.

Hmmm. The chicken was not too bad. But I have an issue with the bones. Haha. It's so difficult to savor the chicken when there's so much bones. Boo! I seriously seriously feel that it would have tasted better if it was de-boned. Hahaha! But wells. We should not complain too much about it. Well, personally, I felt that it wasn't really fantastic. Not fantastic enough to be included in our foodie tour! Haha.

The rice was okok only lo. And so was the chicken. I felt that I actually enjoyed the one at Yishun central much much more than the Wee Nam Kee. Even the one from Woodlands Blk 167. Well, remember to factor in the traveling effort and the sweltering heat! Haha!

So, no, I would not love to return again. Unless I'm very near that place and I'm so hungry that I need food immediately. Hahahaha. But heys, I'm not saying that it's not nice ok? It's just that I had tasted better ones. This is still much better than the normal ones you get around Singapore. Hahaha!

Vegetarian Bee Hoon @ Holland Market

It's been a long time since I last went to Holland Market for lunch!

Today, we decided to give the vegetarian bee hoon our first try. Why? Firstly, it was just next to our table. Secondly, it was having a queue. Like, wow! A queue has to mean something right??? LOL!

Guess what? The whole plate only costs $2! So cheap! Hohohoho! Plus, it was so loaded with all the ingredients!! So value for money right???!! Hahaha. So, I begin to wonder. Was there a queue because of the price, or was it because everyone thinks its nice, or was it because people are queuing? Haha.

Well, it tasted like a normal vegetarian bee hoon to me. I was hoping that the sauce could be a little saltier though. That aside, it was pretty good, for a price of $2. Oh, I like the cripsy 'crackers' though. It may be because I was deprived of fried food for too long. Haha. But I feel that a lot of places don't sell it crispy anymore. They always sell it soggy because it was standing in their stall for too long! For this shop, I can see that the food don't stand in the stall for too long because the orders just keep coming and coming. YEA! (For the auntie and uncle of course!)

I liked the sugar cane because it tasted like sugar cane! Lol. Most of the places are selling the drink in a diluted form. And oh, the reason why I ordered this was because my parents say "THIS IS GOOD FOR GASTRIC!!" I do anything to get myself a healthy GI tract! Hehs.

So, the lunch left me as a happy Kelly! (Even though I did not managed to finish the bee hoon. Oh, even Jon had to agree that the serving was pretty big!)
